       Louisa-Muscatine is looking for a head JH volleyball coach for the 2024-2025 school year. QUALIFICATIONS: Position is responsible for developing the junior high program and working with the head varsity coach with organizing the athletic program at the assigned school. Position assists with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques. The State of Iowa Department of Education sets certification requirements and such licenses are issued through the Board of Educational Examiners. Persons must hold an appropriate license to be employed. SKILLS:

  • Human relations skills are essential.

  • Good attendance is essential.

  • Knowledge of overall operation of an athletic program.

  • If not a certificated teacher, possess a current state coaching/activities supervision certificate.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communications.

  • Must possess some knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.

  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.

  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by head coach, activities director, building principal or other appropriate administrator.

    REPORTS TO: Head coach, Activities director, Building Principal JOB GOAL: To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their athletic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the head coach and activities director. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Under general direction of the head coach, instructs players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.

  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.

  • Assesses players’ skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.

  • Assists with determining game strategy.

  • Assists the head coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.

  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.

  • Models sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.

  • Maintains the equipment/weight room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.

  • Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.

  • Assists the head coach with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season.

  • Participates in special activities to include parents’ nights, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.

  • Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.

  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

  • ENGAGES IN PROFESSIONAL GROWTH. The assistant coach:

  • Demonstrates habits and skills of continuous inquiry and learning.

  • Works collaboratively to improve professional practice and learning.

  • Applies research, knowledge, and skills from professional development opportunities to improve practice.

  • Establishes and implements professional developmental plans based upon the teacher needs to the Iowa Teaching Standards and district/building student achievement goals.

  • Provides an analysis of student learning and growth based on teacher-created tests and authentic measures as well as any standardized and district tests.

  • FULFILLS PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITEIS ESTABLISHED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. The assistant coach:

  • Adheres to board policies, district procedures, and contractual obligations.

  • Demonstrates professional and ethical conduct as defined by state law and individual district policy.

  • Contributes to efforts to achieve district and building goals.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of and respect for all learners and staff.

  • Collaborates with students, families, colleagues, and communities to enhance student learning.

  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Activities Director in accordance with the Iowa Department of Education guidance.
