GENERALSUMMARY:

This individual works closely

with physical, occupational, and speech therapists and assistants, utilizing treatment

modalities, techniques and equipment to provide patient care as directed. Analysis and adaptive thinking required in

the course of providing treatment. Provides on-going services to infant, child,

adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and their families based on

assignment; service provision is in accordance with discipline specific

licensure laws or is provided as a function of a restorative plan that has been

developed by a licensed physical, occupational, and speech therapist.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS:

  • Under indirect supervision of licensed therapy staff providesrestorative treatment plans designed to maintain patient level of functioningin place of/ or is adjunct to other skilled rehabilitation services; carriesout, monitors and/or adjusts restorative treatments utilizing therapytechniques, modalities, and equipment for which competency has beendemonstrated; assumes responsibility for patient’s care, safety and environmentthroughout treatment; observes, reports and records all pertinent patientinformation according to department policy.

  • Prepares patient, equipment, supplies (including topical medicationsused in burn/wound care; does NOT apply medicated supply to patient), andmedical record for transport; verifies Rehabilitation Services order in chart;selects technique for transfer and equipment for transport according to establishedpolicies and procedures and therapist guidance; assumes responsibility of safe,timely transport of Rehabilitation Services patients and medical records to andfrom department clinics.

  • Works in a collaborative effort with others: answers department telephone,taking complete message or answering questions related to patient schedule;assists in filing and record keeping; monitors patient during exercise.

  • Assists in general maintenance of department: Cleans and storesequipment, restocks linens and supplies, changes linens and cleans treatmentareas, maintains transport equipment and arranges for necessary repairs,empties soiled linen/waste containers

  • Demonstrates appropriate and effective written, verbal and non-verbalcommunication with patients and their families, colleagues, medical staff, andthe public; participates in staff meetings and inservice education; protectspatient confidentiality in regard to medical, emotional, and social status.

  • Retrieves relevant information from medical records; uses computer tomaintain accurate scheduling, treatment and charge records; assists in generalmaintenance of work environment and equipment.

MARGINALFUNCTIONS: May be essential functions based on assignment

  • Assists patients in activities of daily living: eating, dressing,toileting.

  • Assists in setup/cleanup for special functions/classes.

  • Assists with presentation of educational programs for department,hospital, patients/families and community.

Qualifications

MINIMUMKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High schooldiploma or GED.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified orobtained within three (3) months of hire.Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American RedCross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Heart Association BasicLife Support for Healthcare Providers.

  • Proof ofcompletion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population servedwithin three (3) months of hire.
