Responsibilities

Principal Global Investors (PGI) will host an undergrad intern in Data Governance Program during the Summer of 2018.The Data Governance mission is to support Principal Global Investor’s top tier asset manager status by leveraging modern, flexible platforms that can easily accommodate real time data flows for a range of products across global, enterprise platforms. Primary objectives of the data governance program is to create accountability for PGI’s enterprise shared data and to ensure policies and processes are in place to ensure accurate, consistent and timely data is available to support the investment, marketing, client reporting and financial reporting functions.

During this internship, you will get a comprehensive overview of how data is utilized throughout the investment and shared services divisions of PGI as well as gain an understanding of the increasing importance of data governance functions in the asset management industry. Throughout the course of this internship you will work directly with the Assistant Director of Data Governance as well as collaborate with business and technology staff which could include Investment Operations, Finance, Sales & Marketing and the Investment Boutiques. Your time will be spent conducting interviews with business professionals to understand and document the current state of data process flows then work business data owners and project stakeholders to drive data process improvements and find opportunities for scale and risk reduction across the institutional and fund platforms. You will also aid in the development of data governance communication and education materials to broaden the understanding of the Data Governance program across PGI.

Qualifications

  • Canidates must be a Principal Women in Asset Management Conference Attendee to be considered for this position.

  • Candidate must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, accounting, data analytics or a related field and have at least one semester of coursework post summer 2018.

  • Knowledge and interest in investments combined with excellent time management & organizational skills as well as the ability to work independently.

  • Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to various audiences and personalities.

  • Advanced PC skills and strong technical aptitude. Exposure to SQL is a plus.

  • Candidate must be highly motivated, proactive and able take initiative to research industry best practices and make recommendations for improvements.
