Meet certification requirements of the Department of Education, State of Iowa
Experience with a Building Trades Program preferred
Knowledge of:
Capabilities and limitations of industrial arts equipment
Industrial arts curriculum and instructional practices and methodology
Safe practices for an industrial arts classroom
Hazardous waste and environmental issues related to an industrial arts classroom

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, evaluate and revise curricula, course content, course materials and methods of instruction in line with the Iowa Core and district Curriculum
Contribute to the selection of materials and supplies while implementing designated curriculum
Employ a variety of instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives
Provide effective, developmentally appropriate and differentiated instruction for diverse learners
Provide rigorous instruction, incorporating inquiry based learning
Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
Promote student engagement in order to inspire and encourage progress while supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities of each student
Supervise students’ work, evaluate and grade student performance, assignments and progress in language acquisition
Follow professional practices consistent with school policies in working with students, students’ records, parents and colleges
Maintain a professional demeanor in dealings with parents and students
Establish and maintain standards of student conduct needed to provide an orderly, safe and productive environment in an activity-type classroom with many potential hazards
Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
Strive to maintain and improve professional competence; stay abreast of developments in the science field
Attend staff meetings, professional development and serves on committees as required or requested
Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted time
Guide students in selection of appropriate elective projects
Instruct students and implement the use of eye protection and safety guards, and in the use, care and safe operation of tools, machines and equipment
Maintain control of storage and use of school-owned property
Demonstrate industrial materials, equipment, tools and processes, using standard or teacher prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other industrial aids
Maintain accurate, complete and appropriate records and files
Keep informed of the industrial community's job entry requirements and instructs students in the rudiments of getting and retaining these jobs
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when requested to do so under reasonable terms
Provide adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teachers
Have regular and reliable attendance
Act as an advisor to student organizations

Capable of standing for long periods of time while instructing
