Dresser-Rand Manager, Engineering in Burlington, Iowa
Siemens Energy is looking for Engineering Manager of Turbine Design for multi-stage/single stage steam turbines product line. Will have responsibility to manage a team of 20-25 employees that do COE for the core turbine, packaging of that
turbine, release specifications for bought out items like baseplates, gearboxes, valves etc., drafting of drawings for the customer as well as for the shop floor and design coordination. In addition, will manage and direct all engineering
activities required to implement orders on the legacy Dresser Rand’s turbine product line. Provide support to the aftermarket group in order to sell and implement modernization (‘re-rate’) for the existing fleet of industrial steam
turbines in the Americas.
Position Qualifications (Required and Preferred):
Required knowledge / skills, education and experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
5-8 years in engineering with a minimum of 5 years in design, analysis and manufacturing of turbomachinery
Strong verbal and written communication skills
2+ years of management/supervisory experience
Up to 30% travel domestic/international
Preferred Knowledge/Skills,education and experience
Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide direction and leadership to the following sets of people:
Product and Packaging Engineers
- Review information from Sales when a project is handed over from Sales to Engineering and finalize the steam path
based on the customer’s steam conditions, perform rotordynamic analyses to ensure rotor stability per contractual
codes and standards like API.
- Perform blade vibration analyses, prepare specifications for major purchased items like the Lube Oil console, gearbox,
baseplate, condenser, gland steam condenser, trip and throttle valve etc,
- Prepare project specific Piping and Instrumentation diagrams, prepare procurement specifications for the control system,
electrical panels for Turbine – Generator sets, instrument panels as required etc.
- Design Coordinators: The coordinators receive information from the Product and Packaging engineers along with the
information from Sales and create the bill of materials required for manufacturing, engineers turbine parts that are needed
and work with the drafting department to complete all drawings required for manufacturing and customer submittals
Draftsmen: The draftsmen create 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing and to define customer interfaces.
Develop and manage department budgets and business plans for the department
Develop policies and programs for area of responsibility or products and forecast their impact.
Assign, prioritize, direct and review the work of engineers, coordinators and draftsmen.
Provide timely and complete support to Manufacturing and Procurement departments to ensure that turbines are built in a
quality assured manner and shipped in time.
Monitor and manage department budget and project budgets
Work together with the R&D department in product improvement and re-design initiatives.
Work together with other engineering groups in the SU network to share resources and knowhow.
