Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for an Electrical Engineer. This position will be filled as either an Engineer Designer II or Engineer Designer III level.

Responsibilities include providing electrical design services while serving as a design team leader or team member and coordinating the work of, or with, other design disciplines for assigned remodeling and new construction projects with budgets of $250,000 up to $500,000; assisting engineers in updating and enforcing university electrical design standards; providing guidance and expertise to FP&M maintenance and operations staff; and investigation, trouble shooting and resolving electrical facility operations and maintenance issues. This position will review work performed by FP&M services personnel for compliance with electrical codes and design standards.

In addition to the duties above, the Engineer Designer III will handle projects with budgets up to $500,000 to $1,000,000 and will be responsible for stamping drawings as necessary.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to communicate and work with university clients, professional consultants and contractors. The candidate will also possess strong tact and negotiation skills to maintain positive client and workplace relations. Strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to organize and coordinate work within projects will also be essential for success in this position.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and related experience totaling 6 years.

Supplemental Required Education and Experience

The requirements above are for an Engineer Designer II.

Engineer Designer III: Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 1 year of related experience.

License to practice Electrical Engineering in the State of Iowa

Preferred Education and Experience

-Degree in Electrical Engineering; -Additional years of experience in the preparation of plans and specifications for educational, institutional or commercial facilities; -Experience estimating electrical construction and operating costs; -CADD experience
