Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position starting August 16, 2018. The standard 9-month appointment runs from 8/16 to 5/15 and may be supplemented with summer salary per ISU guidelines.

The position of assistant professor in sustainable landscape management has responsibilities of 70% teaching and 30% research. The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate courses in landscape plant management, woody landscape plant identification, and landscape contracting. The candidate also will develop an externally funded research program that demonstrates intellectual leadership and scholarship in sustainable practices in landscape management. As part of the research and outreach responsibilities, the successful candidate will interact with nursery and landscape managers and other green industry professionals, participating in appropriate conferences and seminars and providing science-based information.

Finally, the successful candidate will be responsible for advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and actively participating in service to the department, college and university.

Required Education and Experience

Ph.D. in Horticulture or related discipline; Professional experience in landscape plant management.

Preferred Education and Experience

Higher education classroom/laboratory teaching experience in the areas of landscape plant management, woody plant identification, and landscape contracting; Demonstrated experience and skill in communicating with students.
