Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, however, weekend and holiday rotational hours are necessary to accommodate the needs of the animals

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR), under the Vice President for Research at Iowa State University, is accepting applications for an Animal Caretaker I to provide for the general care, husbandry, and enrichment of animals housed at LAR animal facilities.
Animal Caretaker I duties include but are not limited to the following: Observe animals for signs of disease and/or discomfort; Provide feed, water, and enrichment to animals; Clean/sanitize/disinfect animal facilities including animal enclosures and procedure areas; Input and maintain electronic and paper animal census, husbandry, and medical records; Operate and maintain cleaning and maintenance equipment; Operate and maintain ISU-owned vehicles for transporting animals, equipment, and supplies; Assist LAR Veterinary Medical Staff with medical procedures and treatments.
Animal Caretaker I duties require the following abilities: Lift 50 lbs. from the floor; Bend, pull, push, and carry; Repetitive lifting and reaching including overhead; Twisting of upper trunk; Standing and walking on hard surfaces; Work on wet and slippery surfaces.
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions. 2. Possession of a valid state or commercial driver’s license, as required.
